Who participates?

Over 12,000 interviews will be undertaken across NSW in the coming months.

What are the benefits?

The NSW Population Health Survey provides detailed information on health risk factors, service use and behaviours of adults and children. Results enable the estimation of a variety of health indicators, such as adult overweight and obesity, smoking and risky alcohol consumption, at the NSW Local Health District level. Feedback on these issues helps NSW Health put measures in place to plan for health system improvements. Your assistance will help NSW Health plan better health services in your community.

How does it work?

FAQs

Who is this survey being undertaken for?

The New South Wales Population Health Survey is being conducted for NSW Health. The Social Research Centre conducts the telephone interviews required for this survey.

How will the information be used?

The Survey provides ongoing information on health behaviours, health status and other factors that influence the health of the people of NSW to support planning, implementation and evaluation of health services and programs in NSW.

Why should I participate in this survey?

It is vital that our sample represents all sectors of the NSW population to gather an accurate picture of the attitudes, behaviours and health needs of your community. Feedback on these issues helps NSW Health put measures in place to plan for health system improvements. Your assistance will help the NSW Health plan better health services in your community.

How long will the survey take to complete?

The survey will take approximately 20-25 minutes to complete. Arrangements can be made for you to participate at any time that is convenient for you.

Is the survey compulsory?

The survey is entirely voluntary, but your participation is important to ensure NSW Health receives accurate feedback on the health status of the NSW community.

Why are you calling from an ‘02’ number?

As this is a very important study for NSW Health we felt residents of NSW would be more receptive to receiving a call from a 02 number.

How did you get my mobile telephone number?

An Australian company that provides phone numbers for market and social research has supplied us with a list of mobile numbers. Some of these have been randomly generated, and others have been verified as belonging to NSW residents.
We’re calling on mobile phones so we can get a representative sample of people across NSW.

What can I do if I would like further information about the survey?

To confirm the bona fides of the NSW Population Health Survey or to receive an answer to general queries, New South Wales residents can call the SRC hotline on 1800 023 040.
