Impact

The Health and Wellbeing Five Years after the 2019-2020 Bushfires (the Survey) aims to understand the experiences of people aged 16 years and over who lived through the 2019-2020 bushfires in Tenterfield, Eurobodalla, Clarence Valley and East Gippsland. Governments and community organisations need to understand their residents’ health and wellbeing needs to improve health services, but they currently lack this information. With your participation, the Survey seeks to fill this critical gap.

Partner

The Survey is being conducted for Monash University by the Social Research Centre. This research is supported by Fire to Flourish, a program led by Monash University in partnership with communities across New South Wales and Victoria to help communities plan services and strategies to meet local needs.

Aims + Outcomes

Participation in the survey will directly influence future recovery strategies and improve health care access for regional communities affected by bushfire and disaster events. The findings will be used to inform policy development, improve health services, and enhance support systems for communities.

For more information, please refer to the Plain Language Statement here.

The Survey has been developed in close collaboration with community representatives to include questions relevant to local needs. This research is approved by the Monash University Human Research Ethics Committee (MUHREC) ID# 39180 and #46341, and the Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council (AH&MRC) ID# 2358/24.

Methods

If you currently live in Tenterfield, Eurobodalla, Clarence Valley and East Gippsland, you may receive an invitation letter to participate via postal mail. The Survey is open until 6 July 2025.
