The aim of the study is to find out more about the legal services received and to help to improve legal services through the Emerging Lawyers program.

This research is being conducted for the Women’s Legal Services Victoria by the Social Research Centre.

The findings will help to improve legal services provided, and that legal support programs are based on feedback and research.

Methods

This project is being conducted by the Social Research Centre via computer assisted telephone interviewing (CATI). If you decide to take part in the research study, an interviewer from the Social Research Centre will contact you via telephone to complete the survey over the phone. This should take approximately 5 minutes. Participation in this research is voluntary. You can choose not to answer any question, and you can decide to stop at any time.

How does it work?

FAQs

Who is conducting the research?

The Social Research Centre has been engaged by Women’s Legal Service Victoria to conduct the research.

If you have been contacted about the survey, your contact details were provided to the Social Research Centre by your Community Legal Centre with your informed consent.

What is this study about?

The survey will cover topics in relation to the legal service you received such as whether you felt listened to and understood, whether you understood the legal advice you received, and whether you felt you could make decisions based on the legal advice.

Participation in this research study is voluntary.

By giving your consent to take part in this study you are telling us that you:

  • Understand what you have read.
  • Agree to take part in the research study as outlined below.
  • Agree to the use of your personal information as described.

Are there any risks or costs associated with being in the study?

We don’t expect this survey to cause any harm or discomfort, however if you experience feelings of distress as a result of participation in this study you are free to stop at any time. You can also request the interviewer to call you back at an alternative time. You can also withdraw from the survey without consequence.

There are no costs associated with participating in this research study.

Can I withdraw from the study once I’ve started?

Being in this study is completely voluntary and you do not have to take part. You can choose not to answer any question. You are free to stop the survey interview at any time.

To withdraw from the study you can contact the Social Research Centre at any time during the study via info@srcentre.com.au or 1800 023 040, with no consequences to you for withdrawing from the study.

What will happen to information about me that is held and collected during the study?

By providing your consent, you are agreeing to us collecting personal information about you for the purposes of this research study. Your information will only be used for the purposes outlined in this Participant Information Sheet, unless you consent otherwise.

Your information will be stored securely and your identity/information will be kept strictly confidential, except as required by law. Study findings may be published, but you will not be individually identifiable in these publications.

Women’s Legal Service Victoria and the Social Research Centre may be subject to obligations to report instances of child abuse or neglect, threats of self-harm and/or threats to harm others to relevant government agencies, which may affect the confidentiality of the information you provide.

Will I be told the results of the study?

Women’s Legal Service Victoria may publish a report on the results of this research study. Any information published will be done in a way that will not identify you.
