The VPGHS is a cross-sectional, representative survey of Victorian adults that primarily aims to estimate the prevalence of gambling participation, problem gambling risk levels and gambling-related harms in the Victorian community. This survey provides the most accurate population level evidence to inform prevention, intervention, treatment and support policies, programs and activities. In 2022, the ANU and the Social Research Centre were commissioned to undertake the latest iteration of the survey. This represents the fourth in the timeseries with previous surveys being conducted in 2008, 2014 and 2018.
The report is to be released in 2024.
This research is being conducted for Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation by the Australian National University and Social Research Centre.
The VPGHS is the primary means of obtaining data and insights into the gambling and health outcomes of Victorian residents. It gathers local population level data not currently available from other national datasets.
Data collection was undertaken via telephone and involve 11,000 Victorians 18 years and older. The Social Research Centre led the methodological redesign of the project including use of the IPND sample frame.
