The purpose of this final survey is to better understand migrant settlement experiences over the last 12 months. These include changes in your employment situation since the follow-up survey, satisfaction with life in Australia and participation in further education.
Methods
The follow-up survey can be completed online or over the phone.
This survey includes questions about your partner. Please make the following information available to your partner before you commence the survey.
The survey primarily focusses on collecting information about recent migrants (including new visa holders) to understand their experiences in migrating to Australia.
The survey also collects information on partners of recent migrants and/or new visa holders to understand experiences for this group of individuals. To do this, the survey will ask for some information about you. This can include personal information, such as employment status and income.
If you do not want this information to be collected in the survey, please let your partner know so they can skip these questions about you.

Who participates?
The Department is surveying recent Family and Skill stream migrants who have been granted a permanent residence visa or are on the path to permanent residence after being granted a provisional visa. Invited participants completed a survey at the end of 2022.
What are the benefits?
The results of the survey will be used to determine how effective the Department’s current policies are. The results will also help the Department understand how well migrants are settling into Australia and the types of issues migrants experience. Understanding these factors enables the Australian Government to provide better settlement services for migrants and to improve Australia’s Migration Program.

How do we ensure privacy is protected?
The Social Research Centre complies with the Australian Privacy Principles. All personal contact information such as name, email and phone number is removed from the final data. Your responses will be de-identified, held in the strictest confidence and will not be disclosed to other organisations for marketing or research purposes. The responses of everyone who participates in this survey will be combined for analysis. Please see the SRC’s Privacy Policy.

Who is included in the survey?

Can someone else answer for me, like my partner, child or parent?
If you have difficulties understanding English, another member of your household can assist you when answering the survey. The SRC also has interviewers who speak a range of other languages.
What if nothing has changed in the last 12 months?
We would still like you to take part in the survey, as this is valuable information and the follow-up survey does contain some questions we haven’t asked before.
Can I take part from overseas?
To give you the best opportunity to participate, the survey will be run over several weeks. If you are away for longer than this, then it is unlikely that you’ll be able to take part.
