This research is being conducted as part of the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations’ evaluation of the ParentsNext program. The data collected in this survey will be used to help the department better understand the needs of parents of young children and evaluate the effectiveness of the ParentsNext program.
This research is being conducted for the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations by the Social Research Centre.
The main aim of this research is to gather information on participants’ perspectives, experiences and satisfaction with ParentsNext.
The findings of the research will form part of the evaluation of the ParentsNext 2021-2024 program being conducted by the department. In May 2023, the government announced that the ParentsNext program would be replaced with a new voluntary pre-employment service to help parents with young children.
Learnings from this research will also help inform the development of this new service.
This research will involve both online and telephone data collection.

A selection of parents of young children who are currently participating in ParentsNext or have participated in the past will be invited to complete the survey.
Participating in this important research will help the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations to better understand the experiences of parents who have participated in the ParentsNext program. This information is vital to evaluating the success and effectiveness of the ParentsNext program in meeting its objectives and in helping to inform the new service that will replace ParentsNext from
1 November 2024.
If you have been invited to participate in the research you will receive a letter in the mail with a unique ID and password to access the online survey. You will also receive an invitation to the online survey via email and/or SMS. You may also be contacted via telephone to complete the survey over the phone.

The survey should take around 15 minutes to complete.
When is the survey being conducted?
Participants will be invited to take part in the research between February and April 2024.

The information collected will be used for research purposes only. All identifiable information is confidential, as far as required by law, and it will not be shared outside the department’s Employment Evaluation Branch.
The responses of everyone who participates in this survey will be combined for analysis, and no individuals will be identified in any reporting.
