Impact

The National Agricultural Land Management Survey (NALMS) 2025 gathers detailed information on how farmers across all agricultural sectors manage their land. The NALMS will collect data to understand techniques farmers implement for cropping, pasture, vegetation, and water management. By collecting this data, we can identify trends and assess their impact on sustainability and productivity. We also look at land manager knowledge networks, and awareness and involvement in government-funded programs.

Mshirika

This research is being conducted by the Social Research Centre for the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES), which is the research division of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF).

Malengo + Matokeo

Insights from NALMS will assist government to develop and improve programs that support sustainable agriculture and improve the long-term wellbeing of Australia’s agricultural sector and rural communities.

Mbinu

The survey will be conducted via a mix of hardcopy and online modes.

A selection of farmers across all agricultural sectors in Australia will be invited to participate in the survey.

Maswali Yanayoulizwa Mara kwa Mara

How was my business selected for the survey?

ABARES conducts the survey using lists of names and addresses obtained from the Australian Business Register, provided by the Australian Bureau of Statistics in accordance with legislative guidelines. Farms are selected for participation in this survey based on region, size, and production characteristics to ensure an accurate national picture.

What information will I need to access to complete the survey?

You will find it easier to complete this survey if you have some knowledge of the management of the farm property. Some questions may require details of off-farm income from the past 3 years, as well as current cropping, grazing, soil, water and energy management activities being used on the property. Therefore, you may need access to your business records for the 2023/24, 2024/25 and 2025/26 financial years.

Nani anafaa kukamilisha uchunguzi?

The survey should be completed by a person over the age of 18 years who has the best knowledge about the property. This could be the owner/operator, manager or an employee of the business.

Utafiti utachukua muda gani kukamilika?

The survey should take you approximately 40 minutes to complete. The exact time will depend on the answers you provide. Please complete the survey in the next two weeks.

I have received multiple surveys for different properties – do I need to complete the survey more than once?

Yes. If you have received a survey for more than one property you own or manage, we ask that you please complete a separate survey for each property.
