Malengo + Matokeo

Researchers and policy makers will be able to use data from Australian men across different backgrounds, ages and life stages to build a better understanding of male health and wellbeing. Findings from the study will continue to inform policies, services and programs that support the health and wellbeing of Australia men.

By looking at participants’ health and wellbeing over time, Kumi kwa Wanaume can show how experiences, circumstances and behaviours earlier in life affect health and wellbeing later on.

Mbinu

Kumi kwa Wanaume is a longitudinal study, which means we aim to survey the same group of males every few years to understand how their health and wellbeing change over time. Since 2013, the study has provided evidence to help improve programs, services and policies for all Australian boys and men.

Jina Kumi kwa Wanaume refers to the age range of the boys and men when the study began – from 10 years old to adult men. The study follows participants as they move through different life stages and has grown over time to better reflect the diversity of Australian boys and men.

Nani anashiriki?

Kumi kwa Wanaume includes males living in Australia who were recruited into the study and continue to take part in follow-up surveys. Participants span a broad age range and are re-contacted each wave to provide information about their health, wellbeing, social circumstances and life experiences.

Je, ni faida gani?

Researchers use de-identified information collected to identify what could most help improve the health and wellbeing of Australian men and boys. The longer you and other participants continue in the study, the clearer the picture becomes about the key factors that impact health and wellbeing. Looking at participants’ health over time, we can see how health and lifestyle experiences and behaviours in early life affect health and wellbeing in later life.

Je, inafanyaje kazi?

Kumi kwa Wanaume was developed as part of the Australian Government’s 2010 National Male Health Policy and is now guided by the National Men’s Health Strategy 2020-2030. Data from the study is used by researchers and policy makers to improve our understanding of men’s health in Australia and to inform government policies and programs related to men’s health and wellbeing.
