Steve is a transport research specialist with more than 25 years of experience in urban planning, policy, and data analysis. A recognised expert in household travel surveys, he has led the design and delivery of major transport studies across local government, state government, consulting, and research sectors. His expertise spans innovative travel data collection methods, transport policy development, survey methodology, and the translation of complex data into practical insights that support evidence-based decision-making.
Prior to joining the Social Research Centre, Steve held senior roles with the Victorian Government, including management of the Victorian Integrated Survey of Travel and Activity (VISTA), and founded Sift Research, a consultancy specialising in transport analysis and reporting. His work has helped inform transport planning, policy development, and public access to data through innovative research approaches and engaging analytical tools.
Steve joined the Social Research Centre in 2026 to lead the organisation’s transport research program and serves as Project Director for the latest VISTA survey, driving the transition to a digital-first approach to travel data collection.
