这 网络安全专员 has contracted the 社会研究中心 to conduct the 社交媒体最低使用年龄调查 to understand the attitudes of the Australian parents or caregivers and their children towards the new laws that will require social media platforms to take reasonable steps to prevent children under the age of 16 from having accounts on their platform.

The data collected will inform an evaluation of the impact that these new laws have over the next two years. The survey invites children aged 10 to 16 and their parents or caregivers to take part. It features age- and developmentally-appropriate questions exploring attitudes toward the new social media laws, patterns of social media use, mental health and wellbeing, and a range of online activities and experiences – including potential negative experiences.
方法
The study aims to recruit approximately 4000 parents or caregivers – child pairs from a nationally representative sample. Participants will also have the option to take part in additional components.
This is a longitudinal study, meaning the research will follow the same group of children and their parents and caregivers over the next two years. The surveys will happen at these times:
- Prior to commencement of the new law (November / December 2025)
- Around March 2026
- Around June 2026
- Around November 2026
- Around November 2027
