Unsolicited Calls Consumer Research

Client: The Australian Communications and Media Authority

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (the ACMA) has commissioned the Social Research Centre to undertake research to explore and measure Australian adults’ experiences with unsolicited calls.

To do this, we need to understand more about the incidence and frequency of unsolicited calls, their impact, and the actions Australians take to manage them.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority has contracted The Social Research Centre to conduct the telephone interviews required for this survey. You may have received a phone call from 03 8383 4900 regarding this study.

The research will update the ACMA’s understanding of the prevalence of, and Australians’ knowledge and views about, unsolicited calls. It will also be used to inform the ACMA’s regulatory, education, compliance and enforcement activities relating to unsolicited calls. Further information about the ACMA is available on the ACMA’s website .

Your phone number was randomly generated by computer. We find this is the best way to obtain a representative sample to make sure we get opinions from a wide range of people.

The Do Not Call Register is for telemarketers who are trying to sell you something. It does not apply to people who are only collecting opinions and conducting research.

The survey will take about 10-12 minutes to complete, depending on your answers. If you would prefer to participate in the survey at a more convenient time for you, this can be arranged. We can re-schedule an interview time with you anytime between now and 3 April 2018.

The survey is entirely voluntary, but your cooperation is important in order to get an accurate understanding of Australians’ experiences of and attitudes to unsolicited calls.

Any information you provide will be completely confidential and your answers will not be identified as individual responses. Responses are used for research purposes only and are treated in strict confidence. No other agency or department will have access to your details. All information provided is protected by strict Commonwealth and State privacy laws.

If you have any questions about your participation in the survey or would like to make a time for an interviewer to call you, please call the Social Research Centre on 1800 023 040 (a free call).
