The Social Research Centre has been contracted to conduct an important public health survey for Cancer Council Victoria. You may have received a phone call from 03 8327 6000 or 03 8383 4900 regarding this study.
Over 4,000 interviews will be undertaken across Victorian households in the coming months.
Please click on the headings below to reveal further information.
This is an important community survey into attitudes and behaviours that may impact on health. The information from this survey will help Cancer Council Victoria develop cancer prevention programs to help reduce the number of deaths and disease caused by cancer. The Social Research Centre has been commissioned to carry out this study on behalf of Cancer Council Victoria.
We want to be sure that the findings reflect the views of all Victorians, so it is important that we speak to a broad range of people about their thoughts and experiences. Please be assured that this invitation has no connection to any previous contact you may have had with Cancer Council Victoria.
In order to ensure that the sample represents all sectors of the Victorian population, telephone numbers have been generated at random and therefore include both listed and unlisted numbers. The process used to randomly generate numbers was to select all eligible 6 digit prefixes and then randomly append the remaining digits to generate a phone number.
Mobile phone numbers have also been randomly generated.
Please be assured that this invitation has no connection to any previous contact you may have had with Cancer Council Victoria.
- The letter or SMS invited you to update your details, either phone number or state in which you live.
- Letters were sent to households where the randomly generated phone number was listed in the electronic White Pages.
- SMS messages were sent from phone number 0488 824 586.
The survey will take approximately 14 minutes to complete, depending on your answers. The survey is easy to answer as the questions are mainly about the respondent’s own health-related beliefs and experiences.
We will be conducting the survey until December 2017 so arrangements can be made for you to participate at any time that is convenient for you.
The survey is entirely voluntary, however your participation is important. We want to be sure that the findings reflect the views of all Victorians, so it is important that we speak to a broad range of people about their thoughts and experiences.
An interviewer from The Social Research Centre may call in the next week or so.
If we call your landline, the interviewer will invite an adult from your household to participate. They will ask to speak to someone in your household who is 18 years of age or older. To ensure that we get good representation of younger people in the survey, the interviewer will first ask to speak to the youngest adult in the household.
If we call your mobile, as long as you are over 18 years old, we would like to speak with you as the phone owner.
If you have any questions about your participation in the survey or would like to make a time for an interviewer to call you, please call the Social Research Centre on 1800 023 040 (a free call).
